Replacement Cushions for Homecrest and Other Name Brand Patio Sets
Yes, we can cushion a Homecrest frame. We can also cushion a Woodard, a Brown Jordan, a Meadowcraft, a Tropitone or a no name aluminum set from a hardware store that closed in 1998. We do not sew by brand or by model number. We sew to the measurements you take off the frame sitting on your patio right now. The rest of this is how to take those measurements so the cushions actually fit.
Why the brand program stalls on a twenty year old chair
Homecrest does make authentic factory replacements, and their system starts with a model identification guide: find your model number, then look up the matching replacement number. That works well if you still have the tag and your collection is in the guide.
Two things usually go wrong on an older set. The tag is gone, because it was a foil sticker under the seat rail and twenty winters took it. Or the collection was retired and the cushion pattern went with it. Sling chairs are worse, because the same frame was often sold with two or three different sling and pad styles over the years. None of that stops us. A cushion does not know what brand it is sitting on.
Look for the tag anyway
Spend five minutes before you get out the tape. Check the underside of the seat frame, the inside face of the back legs, and the back of the top rail. On glider and swivel rocker bases, look on the mechanism housing. If you find a number, send it to us. It will not change how we sew, but it sometimes tells us what the original cushion looked like, which helps us match ties and welts. If there is no tag, skip it and move on. You lose nothing.
The measurements for a metal frame chair
For a dining or cafe chair with an open metal seat, take four numbers with a steel tape, not a cloth one:
- Seat depth. Front edge of the seat frame straight back to the back rail or the point where the back starts to rise. Do not measure to the back of the top rail.
- Seat width. Side to side at the widest point of the seat area, inside the arms. If the seat is wider at the front than the back, give us both numbers and we will taper it.
- Back height. From the seat surface up to the top rail, for chairs that take a separate back cushion.
- Back width. Side to side across the back opening at its widest point.
Round down to the nearest half inch on width and depth. A cushion that is a hair small sits flat. One that is a hair big rides up the arms and looks wrong forever. Our measuring guide has the same steps with diagrams.
Deep seating frames take a different set
The quick test: if the frame sits low and deep and was built to hold a thick cushion with a separate loose back, it is deep seating. If it sits at table height with a thin pad, it is dining.
Dining frames take a Dining Chair Seat Pad, usually with ties at the back corners so the pad does not walk.
Deep seating frames take a two piece set. A Deep Seat Cushion Set covers a single chair, and the matching Loveseat and Sofa sets cover the rest of the group. If your frame only needs the upright piece replaced, order a Back Cushion on its own. The full range is in Deep Seating.
Thickness, so the cushion does not sit proud of the arms
Measure from the seat surface to the top of the arm. On older aluminum dining chairs that gap is small, and a cushion thicker than the gap pushes your elbows up and makes the arms useless. Pick a thickness that leaves the seated surface at or just below the arm top. We went through this in seat pad thickness for dining and sling chairs.
Match the whole set in one fabric
Since nothing here is tied to a model number, order seats, backs and throw pillows together in one fabric. Older aluminum and wrought iron frames tend to look right in the quieter Sunbrella textures rather than a bright solid: Cast Slate, Spectrum Dove, Antique Beige and Canvas all sit well against painted metal.
Send photos with the tape in the frame
This is the part that saves you a bad order. Lay the tape across the seat and take a photo straight down, then another from the side showing the back and the arm height. Send them with your numbers through the quote form or contact page, and we will tell you what you need and whether anything in your numbers looks off.
